Anos da Joana Joana's Birthday Neste fim de semana, houve encontros 6ª feira e sábado, na Atalaia. Na 6ª feira estiveram lá umas 20 pessoas. Algumas delas escolheram 6ª porque não poderiam ir no sábado. A noite esteve fria e o céu algo turbulento, não propiciando grandes condições de observação. Determinámos uma magnitude ligeiramente acima de 5. No sábado, houve novamente mais de 20 presentes, desta vez com predominância de frequentadores recentes ou ocasionais. Muito agradável ver aparecer uma família completa - já é habitual virem pai e mãe com a filha. Mas, desta vez, veio também a avó. E divertiu-se. Mas a noite foi da Joana. Fez 11 anos e teve direito a bolo. Cantámos-lhe os \\\\\\\"Parabéns a Você\\\\\\\", comemos o bolo e uns petiscos que o Paulo Barros e o Francisco tiveram a amabilidade de levar e voltámos às lides. Desta vez, fomos mais cedo. Chegámos pelas 21:00 horas. O céu estava um pouco melhor que na véspera, com magnitude de 5.5 aproximadamente. Continuou a situação de turbulência atmosférica. Esta noite foi, na totalidade dedicada a observação. Não houve captura de imagens. E foi muito longa a lista de objectos visitados, porquanto só arredámos pé às 05:00. Foram 8 horas de observação quase ininterrupta. Começámos pelo Escultor e Baleia, percorrendo depois quase todos os recentos do céu, para terminarmos com uma primeira visita às galáxias do Leão. Tentámos por todos os meios avistar Sirius B (mag.8.3, separação 4.6\\\\\\\") mas sem sucesso. Fizemos a experiência de observar vários objectos usando filtros O III ou H-alfa colocando-os frente à ocular como se fosse um monóculo. Surpresa: - o resultado era praticamente o mesmo que colocando o filtro na ocular. Foi boa esta noite. Foi boa sobretudo porque apareceu espontaneamente muita gente, dando-nos a garantia de que estes encontros já têm uma massa crítica de frequentadores que garante a sua continuidade e sucasso. And she had fun. But this was the night of Joana, her 11.th anniversary. There was a cake and we sang the \\\\\\\"Happy birthday to you\\\\\\\". We ate the cake and some tidbits brought by Paulo Barros and Francisco and returned to the observations. This time we arrived earlier, by 21:00. The night was better than on friday, with a magnitude of 5.5, but still with some turbulence and was totally dedicated to visual observations. There was no image capture. And it is long the list of observed objects, since we stood there 8 consecutive hours up to 05:00 AM. We started by Sculptor and Cetus and then visited every corner of the sky, finishing with a first view of the galaxies in Leo. We tried by all means to separate Sirius B (mag 8.3, sep. 4,6\\\\\\\") without success. We made the experience of observing different objects, with O III and H-alpha filters, holding them in front of the eyepieces. Surprise! The outcome was almost similar to what we got with them attached to the rear of the eyepiece. This was a good night. And it was good mainly because, with so many people routinely coming here spontaneously, the success of these meetings is guaranteed for the future. Alberto
