Contra as expectativas, céu limpo Unexpectdly, clear sky Este foi um fim de semana comprido. Houve observação 5ª, 6ª e sábado. Na 5ª feira estiveram Alberto, Filipe, Pedro Mota e Rui Tripa. O local foi o Atalaia B. Como o caminho de acesso não foi lavrado, está-se bem, lá ao fundo, junto à vedação. A noite terminou com a chegada da Lua. O Rui e o Pedro estiveram a testar equipamento. O Filipe esteve a registar imagens. O céu não estava grande coisa e parece que as imagens não ficaram boas. Na 6ª feira reuniram na área de serviço Alberto, Hugo, P.B.Guedes, Jorge Canelhas, Luís Evangelista e António Taquelim. Dali partimos para o Atalaia C. A noite não foi boa. O nevoeiro chegou cedo e só deu para observação planetária. Este local é pertença do Sr. José Carlos Nicolau. Ele não vive lá, mas tem lá um caseiro. Disponibiliza uma área grande, com acesso através do portão principal da propriedade. Como é uma área fechada, é preciso avisar o proprietário e ele dá ordens ao caseiro para nos abrir os portões. Todos conhecem aquela luz que se via do Atalaia A. Pois bem, é aí. Mas eles apagam a luz enquanto lá estivermos. Abaixo junto uma ortofoto do terreno. Há um procedimento a respeitar: - para sair do pátio para o terreno é necessário abrir uma cancela de arame. Depois de todos passarem, essa cancela tem de ser fechada. Abre-se para sair e é necessário fechá-la novamente. Uma vez na estrada, é preciso fechar o portão da quinta. Os que lá foram na 6ª feira já sabem o procedimento. É bom comunicá-lo a todos os que lá forem posteriormente. Finalmente, sábado, houve um céu magnífico, límpido, estável, sem Lua, com magnitude ligeiramente superior a 5 (5,2 a 5,3). Presentes Alberto, Filipe, Hugo, Pedro Mota e, pela primeira vez, Nelson Silva, de Sesimbra. Foi muito pouca gente para uma noite tão boa, mas as previsões e o dia dos namorados afastaram muitos dos habituais frequentadores. O local foi o Atalaia B. O Pedro continuou com os testes de equipamento, nomeadamente o sistema de Autoguide, parece que com grande sucesso, tendo obtido algumas imagens que devem ser de grande qualidade. O Hugo, com o Takahashi, esteve na observação pela ocular. O Filipe, apesar de ter estado mais na observação directa, não resistiu a mais umas imagens. Eu levei o DOB 8" e dediquei toda a noite a observação. Approveitei nomeadamente para explorar Leão e Virgem, como treino para uma eventual maratona. Como não podia deixar de ser, Saturno e Júpiter foram alvos de visitas frequentes e as condições estavem particularmente propícias. Alberto This was a long weekend. We held observations on thursday, friday and saturday. Thursday, the attendants were Alberto, Filipe, Pedro Mota and Rui Tripa and the place Atalaia B. As the access road was not ploughed, there is a good location, at the end, near the fence. The night ended with the moon rising. Rui and Pedro were testing equipments, while Filipe captured some images. The sky was not so good and, so it seems, the images resulted poor. Friday, Alberto, Hugo, PBGuedes, Jorge Canelhas, Luis Evangelista and António Taquelim met at the service area and went to Atalaia C. The night was not good; fod arrived early and only planetary observation was possible. This place belongs to Mr. José Carlos Nicolau. He does not live there but he has a farm manager. He makes available a large area, with access through the main gate. Because it is a closed area, we have to warn the proprietor and he orders the farm manager to open the gates. Everybody knows that lamp we used to see from Atalaia A. Well, that is the place. But they switch off the light as long as we remain there. Bellow is an ortophoto of the terrain. There is a procedure we must respect: - to go from the yard to the observation area we must open a wire gate and, after everybody is through, to close it again. The same procedure applies when leaving. Once out in the main road, we must close the main gate. Those who have been there on friday are familiar with the procedure. It is wise to explain it to everybody. At last, saturday, there was a magnificent sky, pristine, stable, without moon, with a magnitude higher than 5 (5,2 to 5,3). The attendants were Alberto, Filipe, Hugo, Pedro Mota and, for the first time, Nelson Silva, from Sesimbra. Very few people for such a good night, but the weather forecast and the St. Valentine's day kept away many of the usual attendants. The place was again Atalaia B. Pedro went on with equipment testing, the autoguide system in particular, and, it seems, very successfully, obtaining some images of high quality. Hugo, with his Takahashi engaged in visual observation; Filipe, mainly observing visually, did not resist to some image capture; I took the 8" DOB and dedicated the entire night to observation. I explored Leo and Virgo as a training for an eventual Messier marathon.
