A mais pequena noite ventaneira e vampírica. The shortest night, windy and vampiric Na noite mais curta do ano, rumámos à Atalaia. Além dos objectivos habituais que passam por espectrografia, exoplanetas, cometas, captura de imagens, havia a intenção de registar a passagem da ISS, através do Obsession. Pensávamos ir obter imagens com algum detalhe. Concluímos que é possível, mas que temos de melhorar a técnica de seguimento. Para a observação visual foi uma noite pouco interessante, com atmosfera transparente, mas pouco estável. O melhor foi Júpiter que nos brindou com o trânsito de IO. Vimos o desaparecimento e o reaparecimento. Durante o trânsito, e ainda algum tempo após o reaparecimento, pudemos seguir a sombra projectada sobre a superfície. Foi uma noite de sol a sol. Já era dia quando partimos. E foi uma noite cheia de melgas. Uma verdadeira praga. Nem os repelentes as afugentam. Mas também é verdade que não há praga de melgas que consiga afugentar um grupo de astrónomos amadores. Alberto In the shortest night of the year we went to Atalaia. Beyond the usual objectives which go from spectrography, exoplanets and comets, to image capture, there was the goal of taking some detailed photos of the ISS through the Obsession. We came to the conclusion that it is possible, but also that we have to improve the guiding technique. For the visual observations the night was quite uninteresting, with a poor seeing. The best was Jupiter together with a transit of IO. We watched it desappear in front of the planet and reappear on the opposite side. During the transit we could follow its shadow over the surface of the planet. It was a full night, from sunset to sunrise. We departed in full daylight. And it was a night full of mosquitoes. A true plague. Even the repellants fail to to keep them away. But it is also true that there is no plague of mosquitoes able to chase a group of amateur astronomers.
