Finalmente uma noite longa A long night Atalaia no seu melhor Gostei de ir e de estar na Atalaia neste sábado. E gostei porque, sem mensagens a marcar encontros, a combinar seja o que for, o recinto estava cheio. É disto que gosto: - haver um local onde quem quiser pode ir, sabendo que vai encontrar mais alguém que partilha os mesmos interesses. Não chove? Há céu? Então há encontro na Atalaia. A noite esteve limpa, com alguma turbulência e bastante humidade. Mas teve o aliciante de a Lua nascer tarde, o que permitiu uma razoável noite de observação para todos os presentes. Com mais de 20 carros e mais de 30 pessoas no local, simplesmente não vou referir ninguém. O Obsession esteve bem ocupado toda a noite, apesar de já termos tido bem melhores céus na Atalaia. Mas, a certa altura chegou o Licínio com a binocular Denkmaier. E foi um prazer suplementar ver e rever objectos como Saturno (a propósito, foi a primeira vez que identifiquei Hiperion, magnitude 14.1), M3, M13, Fantasma de Júpiter, Esquimó, M81, M82, M92, M51, e alguns outros com visão binocular. Devo dizer que é muito compensador. Ganha-se uma sensação de relevo e de profundidade que não existe na visão através de ocular. Há, para algumas pessoas, a dificuldade de fundir as duas imagens numa só. Com o nascer da Lua, acabou o céu profundo. Mas lá continuaram o José Ribeiro, o J. Gregório e o Henrique, na sua incansável lida de obter mais uma imagem ou mais um espectro. Não sei exactamente qual, mas sei que o José Ribeiro esteve a aguardar as 3 horas da manhã para fazer o espectro de uma estrela. Parti pelas 04:15, mas os magníficos atrás referidos ainda por lá ficaram, provavelmente até ser dia. Por este andar, o local da Atalaia vai ficar pequeno um dia destes. This is what I like: -a place where anyone goes, knowing that he will find there someone who shares the same interests. No rain? Sky without clouds? Then there is a meeting at Atalaia. The sky has been clear, with some turbulence and a lot of humidity. On the other hand, the Moon rised late, allowing a quite long dark night for everybody. With more than 20 cars and more than 30 people in there, I will refer no one. My Obsession was busy all night long, even if we have had better skies at Atalaia before. But, at a certain point, Licínio arrived with bis binocular Denkmaier. And what a pleasure, to wathch and watch again objects like Saturn (by the way, this was the first time that I identified Hyperion, magnitude 14.1), M3, M13, Ghost of Jupiter, Eskimo nebula, M81, M82, M92, M52 and some others through binocular vision. I must say that it is very rewarding. We gain athe sense of deepness and volume that doesn\\\'t exist through an eyepiece. We also found out that some people are unable to mix the two images into one. With the Moon, it was the end for deepsky observation. But José Ribeiro, J. Gregório and Henrique went on capturing still another image or another spectrum. I don\\\'t know exactly which one, but I know that José Ribeiro has been waiting for 03:00 AM to capture the spectrum of a particular star. I left by 04:15 AM, but the magnificent 3 above referred stood, probably until dawn. If things continue like this, some day the place Atalaia will become small. But, hopefully, there will be space for everybody. Alberto
