Eclipse Total da Lua (Atalaia) Total lunar eclipse (Atalaia) Eclipse da Lua na Atalaia Desta vez chegámos cedo à Atalaia, ainda de dia. O tempo ajudou, com céu descoberto, temperatura amena. Para nem tudo ser perfeito, houve bastante humidade. Os objectivos para a noite, sobretudo para o eclipse, eram muito variados: - Ver, captar imagens, ver eventuais ocultações de estrelas, determinar o tamanho relativo da sombra da Terra quando comparada com a Lua, e até fazer espectroselenografia durante o eclipse. Deu para tudo e até para petiscar no local. Foi uma bela noite de convívio. O escurecimento do céu só poucos minutos antes do início do eclipse parcial começou a ser notório. Com a progressão da sombra, o céu foi escurecendo, até ficar uma bela noite durante a totalidade, permitindo mesmo algumas aventuras visuais no céu profundo. Mas o mais interessante foi mesmo a própria Lua e a sua vizinhança. No Obsession via-se um número razoável de estrelas e pudemos assistir a uma ocultação, seguindo a estrela até tocar o limbo e desaparecer. A Lua, ao mesmo tempo que era eclipsada ia tomando um tom ligeiramente avermelhado. Com a totalidade escureceu significativamente, mas manteve sempre uma faixa mais clara. Saturno também proporcionou belas imagens no Obsession. O Licínio levou uma binocular Denkmaier. Experimentámos no Obsession. De início tivemos alguma dificuldade em fundir as duas imagens, mas, ultrapassada essa dificuldade, obtivemos imagens de grande definição e relevo, tanto na Lua como em Saturno. É um magnífico acessório. Pelas 02:00, terminado o aclipse, acabou também o céu. E lá rumámos ao sítio habitual para a agradável tertúlia que sempre complementa os encontros da Atalaia. Presentes, além de alguns já habituais frequentadores, estiveram: - Alberto, Anselmo, Filipe e Rute, Henrique, José Ribeiro, João Gregório, Licínio, Luís Carreira, Luís Evangelista e Francisco. E que venha o próximo. Do Sol ou da Lua. Tanto faz! Alberto The lunar eclipse at Atalaia We arrived early, in full daylight. The weather was fair, with a clear sky and mild temperature. But not everything was perfect due to high relative humidity. The goals for the night, particularly for the eclipse, varied from just looking to capture images, follow eventual star occultations, determine the the relative size of the Earth's umbra when compared to the Moon and even to do selenospectrography during the eclipse. Time was enough for everything, even to had some tidbits at the place. The darkening of the sky was noticeable just a few minutes before the partial eclipse started. As the umbra engulfed the Moon, the sky became darker and darker, and, during totality, allowed some observation of deep sky objects. But the most interesting was the Moon itself and the space around. Through the Obsession there was a reasonable number of stars visible and we could testify an occultation, following and clearly spotting the star until it touched the limbo and vanished. The Moon became progressively darker and redish. As the eclipse approached its higher, it became darker, but there was a brighter area near the eastern edge. Saturn also offered beautifull sightings through the Obsession. Best yet was when observed through a Denkmaier binoviewer. Licínio brought it and we tried it in the Obsession. After being able to unify the two images we got great sightings of Saturn and of the Moon. It is an excellent accessory. By 02:00 AM, eclipse terminated, the clear sky came to an end. So we drove to the usual meeting place for some talking, something that has become a tradition in these meetings at Atalaia.
